Following a similar incident involving teammate Kevin Prince Boateng earlier this year, AC Milan midfielder Kevin Constant walked off the pitch following racist abuse from opposition fans during a friendly yesterday.

According to The Guardian, Constant was playing for the Rossoneri against local side Sassuolo in the Trofeo TIM tournament being held in the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy, when he kicked the ball into the crowd when preparing to take a free-kick on the touchline having been subjected to racist abuse from the home supporters.

A number of Constant’s team-mates tried to calm him down immediately afterwards but he walked straight off the pitch, with the referee allowing AC Milan to make a sub before issuing a warning that the game would be abandoned if there were any further incidents of a similar nature.

The unsavoury incident follows on from a similar incident involving Kevin Prince-Boateng in a friendly against Pro Patria in January, when Prince-Boateng kicked the ball into the crowd having been subjected to racist abuse and then walked off the pitch, where he was followed by the rest of his teammates.

The latest episode involving Constant will surely warrant further investigation from the Italian authorities, but as was the case with Kevin Prince Boateng, Constant’s actions will shed further light on racism in football and will hopefully help increase efforts to stamp it out.
