Some open goal misses are shocking, others are scarcely believable and others still are downright hilarious. This one belongs in the latter category.

Dutch second division side De Graafschap will have been ruing their inability to defeat SC Veendam after their encounter on Friday night, but striker Piotr Parzyszek had more reason than most to be downcast after failing to convert a gilt-edged opportunity in the dying seconds.

They say that heading the ball downwards is the best option to take when presented with a chance inside the area, but with the goalkeeper gone AWOL, Parzyszek headed it too firmly into the turf and watched on in horror as it bounced harmlessly over the crossbar and De Graafschap’s chances of winning the game went abegging.

Skip ahead to 1:15 in the video above to cast your eye over Parzyszek’s misfortune but try not to laugh too hard... it could happen to you, after all.
