Newcastle were nothing short of wretched in the first half against Everton tonight, but Yohan Cabaye did score a cracker just after the resumption of the second half.

Alan Pardew will have watched in horror as the Magpies offered little or no resistance at Goodison as Everton raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time, with Romelu Lukaku having a home debut to remember with two goals and Ross Barkley adding to his growing reputation by getting on the scoresheet.

The second half could only get better and Cabaye came off the bench and gave the home side a glimmer of hope with a stunning strike just five minutes into the second half.

It was the first goal the Toffees had conceded at home in the league since last March and while the Frenchman is likely to end up on the losing side, it was one sweet strike.
