Beating Barcelona at the Nou Camp is a tough task at the best of times, but it becomes considerably tougher when you go a man down and then concede an own goal that is up there in the annals of the great comedy own goals of all time.
Real Sociedad were a man down and a goal down in the second half and thought they had been let off the hook when Alexis Sanchez struck the ball past goalkeeper Enaut Zubikarai only to watch it rebound off the post.
Disaster and hilarity then ensued, however, when, under no pressure whatsoever, defender Gorka Elustondo tried to clear the ball but succeeding only in whacking it straight at Zubikarai, who was powerless to stop it rebounding into his own net.
Alexis couldn’t resist a sly chuckle afterwards, neither could the commentator and neither will you when you watch it; comedy own goals like this don’t come around very often and should be cherished when they do, isn’t that right Chris Brass?
