Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his criticism of David de Gea after the Man United v Spurs game yesterday and there was more of the same on Monday Night Football tonight. Was he being a little harsh?

The Spaniard produced a weak punch under pressure in the dying seconds of the game at White Hart Lane yesterday, allowing Aaron Lennon to square the ball to Clint Dempsey to score an equaliser that Spurs certainly deserved on the balance of play.

Despite producing a number of excellent saves during the game, Neville placed the blame squarely on the 22-year old netminder for costing his former club two points and he picked up on the theme during his regular Monday Night Football slot tonight, a slot that is fast becoming a must-watch for football fans.

Neville earned criticism when he revisited the theme on Twitter earlier today, but his stance didn’t soften this evening, as he suggested that the reaction of De Gea’s teammates was a telling sign that they too thought that De Gea should shoulder the blame.

You can see Neville’s analysis in the video above – including a brilliant line about Nemanja Vidic – and judge for yourself whether his cold, unsympathetic view of the incident was fair or whether he should have cut De Gea some slack.
