Video: Gary Neville thought Simon Mignolet should have saved Phil Jagielka’s wonder strike in the Merseyside derby

Really, Gary?

Really, Gary?

Phil Jagielka scored one of the goals of the season against Liverpool on Saturday and in the eyes of most of those watching the game, it was a goal which Simon Mignolet had no chance of keeping out. Except Gary Neville.

While acknowledging that it was a superb strike and joking that scoring a goal like that against Liverpool at the Kop End is something he could only dream about, Neville made the bold claim in a detailed analysis of a ‘keeper who has come in for criticism from some Reds fans this season.

Neville and Jamie Carragher are renowned for the detailed analysis they provide on Monday Night Football and tonight, they turned their attention to goalkeeping, with the body position of both Mignolet and Tim Howard coming in for scrutiny and Neville even testing the durability of his suit trousers when providing a visible demonstration of his argument at one stage.

If you like what Neville and Carragher do then the eleven-minute clip above will make for fascinating viewing but was the former Manchester United man just a little bit harsh on the Liverpool ‘keeper?

We’ll let you be the judge of that.
