Former World Cup-winning Germany captain Lothar Matthäus recently turned the air blue during a live pundit appearance on Al Jazeera. Enjoy.

The 50-year-old former Bayern Munich and Inter midfielder, whose English accent bears more than a passing resemblance to Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno character, erupted into an expletive-filled rant during a Champions League televised tie for the Qatari channel.

It’s difficult to tell quite what has set off Lothar in the below clip, which has received over 140,000 views in the last two days, but we have tried our best to pierce through the player’s skewering of the English language.

Apparently the current Bulgarian national team manager had ‘lost all his evening’ and cancelled his trip to London to appear as part of the TV station’s live football coverage. From what we can gather, this was news to Al Jazeera, who had scheduled his appearance for the day after instead.

Luckily for us, this news didn’t deter Matthäus from demanding an explanation for this outrage live on TV, even grabbing a phone and shouting down the line to what we assume is a higher-up at Al Jazeera.

Admittedly, Lothar’s pidgin English has come a long way since his first unsuccessful attempts towards understanding the language a decade ago at MLS side the NY Metrostars (later renamed New York Red Bulls). You can enjoy a happier, though still incomprehensible Lothar below:
