Seriously, how did he miss that?

Seriously, how did he miss that?

In the next few weeks, football news outlets and websites like our good selves will be compiling lists of the best and worst of 2013 and open-goal misses of the year will no doubt be a popular category with plenty of worthy contenders from the last 12 months.

Gillingham’s Adam Barrett ensured that he will feature near the top, if not at the top of that list after a quite shocking miss in a League One clash against Stevenage last night, somehow managing to scoop the ball up and over the bar from a yard out with the ‘keeper gone AWOL from his goal-line.

Because the Gills won 3-2, manager Peter Taylor was able to joke about it afterwards and say that he was considering fining him and one wonders whether that would be punishment enough for such a shocking, shocking miss.

Awful, just awful.
