Leinster’s new signing Jimmy Gopperth was last night involved in one of the most unlikely tries you are likely to see.

The Newcastle Falcon’s defeated Bedford 17-15 to extend their unbeaten run to 18 games, and Gopperth showed his mettle with a last minute conversion to take the spoils, but it was the first half-try that will be a source of amusement to fans (though maybe not any connested with Bedford).

Gopperth’s penalty cannoned both posts, then the bar before centre Noah Cato pounced on the loose ball to touchdown. Gopperth added the extras for a 7-6 interval advantage.

Leinster fans will hope that he might be something of a lucky charm next season when he lines out in blue.
