Leon Osman will probably admit that it wasn’t the cleanest strike he’s ever hit, but you’re not going to complain when you hit a beauty into the top corner from 30 yards out.

A week after being humiliated by Wigan on their own turf, Everton have looked like a completely different outfit in the first half against the Champions at Goodison Park and they got the goal their efforts deserved just after the half hour mark on Merseyside.

Seamus Coleman, who has been very lively down Everton’s right side, did his best Cristiano Ronaldo impression with a few stopovers on the edge of the box before teeing it up for Osman, who hit it first time off his left foot from 30 yards.

Osman seemed to catch a bit of the ground as he was hitting the ball and there was more swerve on the shot than there was power, but it mattered little as it flew beyond a static Joe Hart and into the top corner to give the Toffees a deserved advantage.
