It’s like he was never away.

Most mere mortals take time to settle back into their usual rhythm after two months on the sidelines, but Lionel Messi is no mere mortal and marked his return to action from a hamstring injury with two goals in 27 minutes in Barcelona’s 4-0 Copa del Rey victory over Getafe last night.

Introduced as a second half-sub for Andres Iniesta, the little genius struck Barca’s third and fourth goals after Cesc Fabregas had earlier scored a brace for the Catalan side and it’s fair to say the home faithful were glad to have him back doing what he does best at the Nou Camp.

Messi’s first effort was simple enough finish two minutes from time after a lovely dinked through ball by Sergio Busquets was knocked into his path by Martin Montoya but his second, in injury time, was vintage Messi, as he picked up the ball on the right hand side and teased the Getafe defence with a brilliant dribble before finishing emphatically to the top corner.

He’s back alright.
