Nick Powell, currently on loan at Wigan from Manchester United, scored a brace in Wigan’s Europa League win over Maribor last night and his second effort was particularly sweet.
Powell made a few first-team appearances for the Red Devils last season but was sent to Wigan on a season-long loan at the start of this campaign to further his development and it seems to be doing him no harm so far.
The 19-year old was the star of the Latics’ first ever win in European competition last night with two goals, including a fantastic solo effort where he took on half the Maribor defence before delivering an accomplished finish.
Powell won’t feature for the Premier League Champions until next season at least, but Powell’s performance will offer a small crumb of comfort and a reason for United fans to be cheerful amidst what has been a pretty shocking start to the season so far.
