Mo Farah is a multiple Olympic and World Champion, but to a US TV presenter recently, he might as well have been any old runner in the New Orleans half-marathon.
Farah entered the brilliantly titled Rock ’n’ Roll New Orleans Half Marathon at the weekend and not very surprisingly, he ended up winning the event in a time of one hour and 59 seconds ahead of Ethiopian athlete Gebre Gebremariam.
The victory was the latest achievement in a very successful run of form for the British athlete, who won gold in the Olympic 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres in London last summer and is the reigning World and European 5,000 metres champion.
All of those achievements were lost on WDSU news anchor LaTonya Norton, who interviewed Farah after the event but didn’t know him from Adam and in one of the most cringe-worthy exchanges you’ll ever see, asked him: ‘Haven’t you run before? This isn’t your first time?’
If Farah wasn’t so humble, he could have listed off all of his many career achievements to date, hell he could have even started doing a ‘mobot’ live on air, but instead he simply said that he had run half marathons before, but not in New Orleans and when asked about his future plans, he said he would be focussing on ‘track and field’.
We’re sure Norton was quickly told after the interview exactly who she had been talking to and what a huge cock-up she had made, but she can be sure that this clip will be replayed many, many times in years to come.
Cringe.
