If you are going to score an own goal you might as well do it in style. This is exactly what Ernesto Galan did at the weekend in Spain.

The Xerez defender won’t be the toast of his teammates after they lost 1-0 to Sabadell at home, with the winner coming courtesy of a back-heeled lob that would be rightly lauded if it were at the other end of the pitch.

The fact that this occurred in the fifth minute of injury-time meant that there was little time to recover from such a set-back.

For Sabadell, it further highlighted the importance of being Earnest.
