This lad was probably feeling more than a little humiliated after somehow conspiring to hit the post and then hit the ball wide from a yard out, but was there any sympathy from the crowd? Not likely.

The lad in question, one Boti Demel of Georgian side Zestafoni, will be having nightmares about this particular episode for years to come after he was guilty of one of the worst but also one of the funniest misses we’ve seen in a long time in a friendly against Merani Martvili on Saturday.

Although Demel did well to react quickest after the opposition ‘keeper has spilled the ball, he hit the post with the follow up when it was a million times easier to score and such was his momentum that he couldn’t really do much to prevent himself from sending the rebound wide from a yard out.

Demel might have expected a sympathetic or even an angry reaction from the crowd, but instead he was greeted with the most fitting response under the circumstances: uproarious laughter.

Poor guy.
