Amongst scenes of riot police clashing with fans at the Argentine Clausura match, one of the players got smashed in the face by a baton
By Adrian Collins
The match between Newell's Old Boys and Belgrano saw scenes of serious violence last night when the fans in the corner of the stadium started to kick off and throw missiles.
Both the riot police and the players came over to try and diffuse the situation, but they were unable to do so, as the officers began to remove the fans from the stadium.
When the players confronted the officers about their reaction, one of them decides they've heard enough from anyone on the pitch, and cracks Belgrano's Gaston Turus on the head with their baton.
If you watch through to the end of the video, you can see a close up slow motion replay of the hit, as well as Turus going to the sideline to be treated for his injury.
That's going to be a serious headache today for both the officer and the player we imagine, it's probably going to be difficult to explain to the football federation why one of their players was attacked by the police.
