Video: Scuffle shock; Badminton game descends into vicious fight

Whatever the Badminton World Federation’s equivalent of the CCCC is, these boys will be up before them this week.

Whatever the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) equivalent of the CCCC is, these boys will be up before them this week.

We’ve covered no end of GAA schemozzles, baseball bench clearings and soccer riots in our time here but we don’t remember ever covering a badminton fight before.

This footage, shot over the weekend at the Canadian Open men’s doubles final between, yep, you guessed it, Jongjit/Puangpuapech and Bodin/Pakkawat, ended in a fist fight.

According to a report on Badmintonace, at the end of the first set, Jongjit and Bodin glared at each other and exchanged a few words before Bodin did the badminton equivalent of dropping the gloves in ice hockey by dropping his racquet and going for Jongit.

The victim makes it to the next court but there Bodin catches him, landing a few digs and one very vicious boot.

According to the BWF, Bodin/Pakkawat were issued with a black card and disqualified but we reckon the bold Bodin will face further sanction.

Thanks to Conor Brown for sending our way.
