Video: Southampton players react hysterically after Dejan Lovren’s delicious training ground nutmeg

There’s no doubting it was a fantastic piece of skill but was it really worthy of a reaction like this?

There’s no doubting it was a fantastic piece of skill but was it really worthy of a reaction like this?

We’ve seen in recent years that footballers often seem to get a bigger kick out of humiliating a teammate in training than they do out of, say, scoring a hugely important goal in an actual match (granted that may be a slight exaggeration) and there was further evidence of it at Southampton’s training ground this week.

As even the bog-average five-a-side player will know, there’s nothing more humiliating than being nutmegged and Harrison Reed was the victim this time around as Dejan Lovren knocked it through his legs with a quite sensational drag-back, a piece of skill that prompted hysteria and a lot of high pitched whooping and hollering amongst his team-mates, particularly Adam Lallana.

Yes, it was brilliant, but it still doesn’t hold a candle to the Daddy of training ground humiliations. Juan Mata, come on down…
