Video: That had to hurt – Mario Gotze takes one to the babymaker

Borussia Dortmund have built their reputation on ball control, but this wasn’t the ball control Mario Gotze was looking for yesterday.

The club may be falling short in their quest to win three league titles in a row, but in Europe especially they have looked mightily impressive. And Irish fans know only too well the quality of the likes of Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus.

Yesterday Dortmund lost further ground domestically with a 2-1 loss away to Schalke, but Gotze will be feeling the pain more than his team-mates after taking a powerful shot from team-mate Robert Lewandowski in an area he will wish he hadn’t.

The Polish striker can pack quite a punch, and unfortunately Gotze could not get out of the way in time.
