Video: The Silent Night College Basketball game looks like awful craic

Taylor University’s Silent Night game might sound like a quiet and austere occasion. It’s anything but.

College sports are so much more important in the States than anywhere else. They attract huge crowds, are regularly featured on live television and there is a sense of occasion about them that you wish could be transported to the likes of the Sigerson or Fitzgibbon Cups over here.

The Taylor University Silent Night game is a good example of what we’re missing. Once a year, fans at the game stay completely silent until the tenth point is scored. After that it’s sheer bloody mayhem.

We’ll let you see what transpired this year for yourself in the video above, but it features crazy costumes, a child leading the crowd in a mass Gangnam Style dance and the greeting of every score as if it’s the winner in the most important game ever played.

Then they all calm down again, link arms and sway from side to side while singing ‘Silent Night’.

Brilliant.
