Never mind Manuel Neuer, Joe Hart or Gigi Buffon, if you need a keeper to play a 70-yard pass, Central Coast Mariners’ Matt Ryan is your man.
Aside from the legend that is Emile Heskey we haven’t really thought much about the A-League this year. But thanks to Reddit Soccer a goalkeeper highlight reel has caught our eye.
But this isn’t a collection of great saves, or even bloopers, it is a distribution compilation. Ryan, 21, seems to be the king of the side-volley pass to start counter attacks. Ryan appears able to hit his target 50, 60 or even 70 yards away at will and set his team up before the opposition know it.
The standard of his passes definitely wanes as the video goes on but some of the early ones are stunning. Winner of the Young Keeper of the Year award last season, we wonder will a few of Europe’s big boys start to put out some feelers for the youngster now.
