American student Alex Permann is surely wallowing in self-pity today. Not that we blame him. He was just seconds away from winning $50,000 yesterday.
By Declan Whooley
Permann, a 24-year-old student at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, was selected to participate in a chance to win $50,000 if he was able to make a layup, free throw, 3-pointer and half-court shot all in 24 seconds before yesterday’s Missouri Valley Conference championship game.
After scoring the lay-up, getting the free-throw at the second attempt and nailing the half-way line shot, he was more than a little chuffed with himself, convinced he had bagged himself a nice windfall. Unfortunately, Permann completely forgot to shoot the three pointer thus disqualifying him from collecting the cash.
The student will have been disgusted that he forgot about the three-pointer requirement, though USA Today reports that Permann was awarded ‘four tickets for life to the MVC tournament and four VIP passes and a three-day hotel stay in St. Louis for next year’s tournament.’
He’ll know for next time.
