Hang your head mate, this is just unforgiveable.
Everyone who’s played football at any level will have endured embarrassing moments where they want the pitch to open up and swallow them, but that would be too lenient a punishment for the man responsible for one of the worst open goal misses we’ve ever seen.
We know precious little about the player responsible for the miss or the teams involved but thanks to the lads at 101 Great Goals, we do know that it was recorded in a town called Živinice in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The ‘striker’ responsible for said miss mightn’t be able to show his face around the town for at least a few weeks after somehow conspiring to hit the underside of the crossbar from three yards out having beaten the ‘keeper to a 50/50 ball and it served him right that the ‘keeper was back between the sticks to foil him when he tried to bury the rebound.
FIFA today announced the contenders for the Puskas award, the best goal of the last year and if there was a similar award then for worst misses of the last year then this guy would be top of the pile.
Terrible, absolutely terrible.
