Video: Tom D’Arcy called Constance Markievicz a man on RTE News yesterday evening

“Constance Markievicz gave up his life to enable us to eradicate suppression, taxation, eviction, criminality... ” You might want to check the history books there, Tom.

“Constance Markievicz gave up his life to enable us to eradicate suppression, taxation, eviction, criminality… ” You might want to check the history books there, Tom.

The beleaguered property developer looked an angry man while giving out about the Allsop property auction at the Shelbourne Hotel yesterday, an event that had to be cancelled because of protests by D’Arcy and others.

D’Arcy went down the route of recalling the deeds of some of the most well-known figures in Irish history in an attempt to drum up support for his argument, but his rant would have been a whole lot more convincing if he hadn’t referred to one of the most famous women in Irish history, Constance Markievicz, as a man.

Ben Gilroy of Direct Democracy Ireland and the others located behind D’Arcy in the shot may well have been too afraid to correct him on camera, but it all had the end result that whatever point D’Arcy was trying to get across, it was completely overshadowed by what was possibly an innocent but still fairly glaring mistake.
