Video: Trust Zlatan to score one of the best panenka penalties we’ve ever seen
It was so good that the keeper didn’t even dive and he still wasn’t able to save it.
Such is the level of confidence bordering on arrogance possessed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic that we’re surprised he doesn’t try panenka penalties on a more regular basis, but the one he delivered against Lyon last night was worth waiting for.
You can file this alongside Pirlo v England, Ramos v Portugal and some of the best panenka penalties taken in recent years as Lyon ‘keeper Rémy Vercoutre didn’t fall for it in the usual way and dive the wrong way, but remain rooted to the spot as Zlatan dinked it nonchalantly into the top corner.
Zlatan was certainly enjoying himself to the extent that he even took the p*ss a little and began juggling the ball in the middle of the pitch (see above) while PSG were 3-0 up (they won 4-0) and while that would be a cause for disapproval for most ordinary players, it is Zlatan after all so we’re inclined to let him away with it.
