Sure, it was only in a pretty meaningless end of season friendly but Wesley Sneijder’s back-heel against China today won’t be forgotten about in a hurry.
Now at Galatasaray after a far from straightforward exit from Inter Milan, Sneijder mightn’t be as prominent at club level as he once was but as he showed against Real Madrid in the Champions League a couple of months back, he’s still capable of special moments when the mood takes him.
He was in the mood in the Netherlands’ 2-0 friendly victory over China earlier today, following Robin van Persie’s opener with a delightful back-heel on the turn to wrap up victory in the Far East and though it may have bobbled its way into the net, the execution of the turn and the back-heel on the run was a joy to behold.
