It looks like ‘the future’ is finally here. Don’t believe us? Take a look at this stunning demonstration of nano quadrotors. Don’t worry, you can nod and pretend that you know what they are too.

Yesterday the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception (GRASP) lab at the University of Pennsylania released an extremely impressive demonstration of a fleet of small quadcopters. In case you’re wondering, a nano quadrotor is a multicopter that is propelled by four rotors and nanotechnology – thanks, Wikipedia.

The clip is remarkable not just for the agility of the 16 quadcopters but rather their co-ordination, as the 16 robots fly in figure eight formation, navigate obstacles and land with perfect synchronicity.

Truly, this is either the beginning of an incredible breakthrough in military surveillance or potentially the downfall of the human race at the hands of our new robot overlords. Hopefully not the latter.

For now, all we want to do is buy about 32 and play real-life Space Invaders. For now, enjoy the awe-inspiring clip above.
