Those of you who like a comedy own goal – in fairness, who doesn’t? – are in for a treat with this brilliant effort that Colchester’s Brian Wilson put into his own net yesterday.

We’ve seen some spectacular own goals, unfortunate own goals and downright hilarious own goals over the years, but we’ve rarely seen anything like the own goal scored by Colchester defender Brian Wilson yesterday.

With his side already a goal to the good, Oldham's Matt Derbyshire struck an effort towards the Colchester goal that Brian Wilson initially managed to keep out. Or at least he thought he did.

Actually, he hadn’t really a clue what was going on as he looked around in panic in search of the ball, which happened to be rolling into the net very slowly behind him.

The video above isn’t of the highest quality but you still get the picture and although we have a little bit of sympathy for Wilson, it didn’t stop us laughing our asses off.

Comedy own goal gold.
