Invisible Children, the group behind the hugely popular ‘Stop Kony’ viral video, were left red-faced yesterday after their co-founder had a meltdown while wearing his invisible pants.

Jason Russell, by far the most public figure in the group, was arrested yesterday after pounding the pavement, making animal noises, smashing parked cards and finally, masturbating during a public meltdown on a San Francisco street.

According to Jason’s wife, he had not been taking public criticism of Invisible Children too well in recent weeks. “Jason has not had a substance abuse or drinking problem and this episode wasn’t caused by either of those things,” she said. “He did some irrational things brought on by extreme exhaustion and dehydration.”

Ben Keesey, another member of the charity added: “The past weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially.”

Though Invisible Children were initially praised for their efforts to make exiled Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony “famous”, the group have come under the microscope in recent weeks, with critics claiming that the founders do not donate enough of their proceeds directly to the Ugandan effort and that their glossy videos oversimplify the issue.
