Warner Bros have decided to cough up an extra $9m to fix visual effects for its Green Lantern movie, which hits cinemas in less than two months.
The Ryan Reynolds-starring superhero film, which already boasts a huge $150- 200m budget (depending on which reports you read), is to receive a 20% boost to its $45 visual effects budget, after the studio approved last minute changes to Reynold's all-CGI suit.
Green Lantern's ambitious decision to use a non-physical, visual effects suit has drawn the ire of the comic book fans, who were unimpressed with early footage, expressing their disappointment that the visual effects, particularly those on Reynold's face mask, were not what they had expected. The film already has 1,400 visual effects shots, according to a report in Hollywood trade daily Variety.
According to the report, Lantern's expensive last-minute alterations are becoming standard practice.
Variety cite one visual effects house in their report that is working on the upcoming Transfomers: Dark of the Moon, with the team cancelling its Easter holidays and is working seven days a week, 12 hours a day on the Michael Bay sequel.
Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern casts Reynolds as a test pilot that is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe. To be fair... it's look pretty ropey.
