Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has completed the signing of Waterford United’s winger Jack Doherty on a two-year deal.

McCarthy of course is no stranger to dipping into the Irish market and the 18 year-old joins the rest of the the Tractor Boys  on their pre-season training camp in Ireland.

The Clonmel-born left winger, who has been capped at Under-18 Schools level, who spent time at Portman Road as a trainee, has been told by McCarthy that he needs to bulk up in order to survive in the Championship.

“He trained in Ireland with us and wasn’t embarrassed by being there and kind of stood out. There’s a real potential in him. He needs to put some (weight) on.”

Doherty is Town’s ninth signing of the summer, will be joining former Waterford forward Daryl Murphy at Ipswich.

“If Jack does anywhere near as well as Murph has done then we will be delighted,” added McCarthy.

We wish Jack all the best at Portman Road.
