Wayne Rooney dismisses Manchester City link

Wayne Rooney has spoken about Manchester City speculation, Cristiano Ronaldo and listening to Susan Boyle.

In a candid interview he has revealed he had no plans to join Manchester United's local rivals City during the six days last October when he announced his intention to leave and claimed he was worried about the direction United were heading in.

"I went to see the manager and David Gill and asked them for answers. Now I realise it has nothing to do with me," the 25-year-old said in an exclusive MUTV interview with former United European Cup-winner Paddy Crerand.

"But I wanted to make sure it was the right thing for me to do. I got the answers in the end but looking back it was probably wrong of me to do that.

"I understood some of the fans were disappointed and felt let down. But it was just one of those things I had to get right.

"Thankfully I have sorted it out now. I have made the right decision and made myself happy."

He dismissed the rumours that he may have moved to Manchester City.

“People said I was odds-on to go to Man City. That was never the case. There was no way I'd have gone there, but I know I've made the right decision. I've made myself happy," the spud-like soccer star said.

In addition, he also reveals that on the day at the previous World Cup when Cristiano Ronaldo was condemned for trying to get his Man U teammate Rooney sent off, the England man had been guilty of a very similar offence earlier in the game.

"I went up to the referee and said he had dived and he should be booked. No-one saw that," he shrugged. "Everyone saw mine because it was a red card."

Rooney revealed he has taken the first steps towards a post-career stint in management and admitted he likes to relax before matches by listening to Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle. Not cool.
