Weather warning: -7C temperatures and more snow to fall over the weekend

Met Eireann have issued a weather warning for the weekend as yet more snow is due over the weekend and into next week.

The cold snap could go on until as late as Thursday, as a Siberian air flow makes its way across the country.

More of the white stuff is due to fall today over Ulster, Connacht and parts of Leinster. Flurries of snow up to 10cm may fall in parts of Donegal and in West Connacht - levels of snow not seen since the days at the height of the Celtic Tiger when the bathrooms of some of Dublin's top hotspots could sometimes be awash with the stuff.

Drivers are being advised to take extra care on the roads today as sub-zero temperatures mean that even in areas without snow there is a real risk of black ice. Overnight, temperatures may drop as low as -7 C.

AA Roadwatch advises drivers to avoid the Sally Gap and the Wicklow Gap due to overnight snow, and warns that the N11 is icy between the Rathnew and Arklow exits.

Drivers should always drive on tyres with a good amount of grip, drive slowly, avoid erratic movement and keep a good distance from the car in front.

Delays to those trying to escape the weather via Dublin airport may occur as the main runway was closed for two hours on Saturday morning in order to clear away snow.
