Winter Qatar World Cup “possible” – Platini

UEFA president Michel Platini has revealed that he is not opposed to moving the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from June to January.

The notoriously annoying Frenchman has admitted that the timing of the World Cup may have to be moved in order to avoid players and supporters being cooked alive in the scorching 40 degrees summer heat.

He made his admission after leaving a UEFA meeting in Prague. "Why not? It is possible," he conceded.

Platini said that he supported the decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar even if the games ended up being played during the summer, pointing out that players had previously withstood high temperatures during some USA '94 games.

One such game, of course, being Ireland v Mexico in Orlando - a game in which many of the pasty Irish squad could be seen visibly melting.
