YouTube will be dipping their toe into the world of music streaming this year by launching a service similar to Spotify
By Adrian Collins
According to reports from the good folks at Fortune, YouTube will be launching a music streaming service later this year, which will offer both free and subscription content to users who want to listen to a few tunes.
Google have been eyeing up a service that will take some of Spotify's profitable share of the market, and so will use YouTube as their vehicle to get involved.
When speaking to Engadget though, YouTube weren't divulging any information, saying only “While we don't comment on rumor or speculation, there are some content creators that think they would benefit from a subscription revenue stream in addition to ads, so we're looking at that”.
Currently, speculation is that the service will be paid for by ads in your music, while paying some money will get you an ad free version of your favourite songs. No details have been given on whether this service will be launching to a world wide audience, however.
