They say a good carpenter never blames his tools, but it sure helps to have a good starting point.

Having a decent drill should be an essential. You will need one more often than you think, you can’t keep relying on your dad, brother, friend etc. Or a battered hand-me-down drill.

Picking out a decent drill can be tricky to the untrained eye, so JOE has looked around and found the cream of the crop.

Makita 18V Combi Drill

We looked at a number of drills and this bad boy is the best priced professional cordless power tool that we came across. Unless you are a budding DIY professional and considering starting your own TV show, this is the ideal starter model.

The drill comes with a 101 piece accessory kit. You may never use all of these, but you won’t know which ones you will need until the dreaded moment so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Along with the handy-sized case, you receive two 1.3Ah Ni- Cad batteries and a charger. All of this will set you back just €130 plus VAT at Caulfields.

That is undoubtedly a bargain, but once you have your drill, that’s where you are on your own. We can’t hold your hand. As the saying goes, you can only lead the horse to water.

The Makita 18V Combi Drill is available today at Caulfield Industrial – The Single Source
