The news comes ahead of the blockbuster’s release next weekend.

A sequel to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has been announced despite the fact that the original film has yet to be released.

The most highly anticipated blockbuster of the summer opens next weekend but director James Gunn has signed on to write and direct the follow-up, which will be released in 2017.

Also announced at Comic-Con was a prequel to ‘King Kong,’ titled ‘Skull Island,’ which will look at the island on which Kong made his home.

According to Entertainment.ie, a teaser to the film was shown in San Diego to a mixed reception.

Finally, ‘Godzilla’ is getting a sequel despite receiving lukewarm reviews from both critics and the public (JOE gave it a resounding ‘meh’ earlier in the summer).

Gareth Edwards will return to the director’s chair for that one.
