The Goonies is getting a sequel.

The 1980s kids classic has long been rumoured to be getting a follow-up, and director Richard Donner has confirmed that he expects the entire cast of the original to take part.

“We are doing a sequel,” he said.

When asked if the likes of Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton and Iain Dowie* would return, he replied “Hopefully all of them.”

Brolin had hinted at a sequel in an interview back in 2010.

“People keep asking me over and over about a sequel,” Brolin said at the time.

“I saw Steven Spielberg [the film’s producer] on the street about a month and a half ago, and I asked the reality. I hear there is a script, yes, but there’s no talk about doing a Goonies sequel at this very moment. And that’s the first time I’ve been truthful about that answer… ever.”

*Sorry Iain. Had to.
