To paraphrase Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, neither has been a goal scoring stronghold of late.
From Ashley Young’s reputation as a diver and not much else to Emmanuel Adebayor banishment to the reserves at Spurs, it looked like the 2013-14 season for both players was going to be a bit of a disaster.
But in the space of a few minutes of each other, both gave their teams the lead in spectacular fashion in what may be an upturn in their individual fortunes.
Young was selected by David Moyes for the tricky Capital One Cup tie in Stoke and just after the hour mark he absolutely lashed the only goal of the game so far with a very sweet strike.
At almost exactly the same time, down in London, Emmanuel Adebayor was enjoying a start under interim Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood. And he made his point with a cracking volley to open the scoring for his side in the Capital One Cup.
