The tale of St. Patrick to be the subject of an epic historical TV mini-series in the style of Braveheart

We can’t say we saw this one coming.

We can’t say we saw this one coming.

Whether it’s from early days in primary school or more extensive research later in an academic career, the vast majority of Irish people have a basic idea about the life of our patron saint, St. Patrick, who is celebrated at home and around the world every March 17.

While stories of him driving snakes out of Ireland abound, we would never have envisaged Patrick as a bad-ass, William Wallace type character, but all of that might be about to change if some pretty big names in Hollywood get their way.

That’s right, according to Deadline, Len Wiseman of Underworld and Sleepy Hollow fame is set to direct a Fox mini-series called, appropriately enough, St. Patrick, which, apparently, will explore his “dramatic transformation from a rebellious teenager into a legendary peacemaker and chronicle his story as a slave who becomes a priest, a priest who becomes a warrior, and ultimately a warrior who becomes a saint”.

Imagine that line as if it came straight from a Hollywood trailer and it’s hard not to get excited.

Deadline say that Wiseman will be on board as an Executive Producer and we don’t know a whole lot else but we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on developments; in fairness, with a premise that promises St. Patrick crossed with Braveheart, how could we not?
