Today is collection day across the country

The Special Olympics take place in Los Angeles this summer, and Colin Farrell has appealed for funding to send 88 Irish athletes to the States.

In the video, Dublin actor Farrell says: “It’s going to cost a pretty penny to send the 88 athletes who will be representing our country over to Los Angeles for the Games, where they will be competing with thousands of other athletes from around the world.

“But it’s a really worthy cause, of course, and one that’s very close to my heart, and, I believe, close to the hearts of the people of Ireland, as was demonstrated in 2003 [when Ireland hosted the Games].”

Farrell has long been associated with the Special Olympics and played a massive part when Ireland hosted the Games in 2003.
