Mayor of Boston Marty Walsh has come to the fore in recent weeks, defending his city’s status as a sanctuary for immigrants in America.
Walsh, whose parents are Irish, has been giving speeches assuring undocumented immigrants in the Massachusetts capital that they will be kept safe from the executive orders of Donald Trump, whose administration is clamping down hard on immigration.
Speaking in Boston today, Walsh vowed to continue his fight for the rights of immigrants in the United States.
“We’ll protect you with a sacred document that this country was founded on, called the United States Constitution. This our duty, and this is our value.”

The 49-year-old Democrat was born to two Irish immigrant parents. His father, John Walsh, is from Galway, and his mother Mary O’Malley is also from Ireland.
It is estimated that 20% of the people in Boston are of Irish descent. Boston is also the location for the Irish International Immigrant Centre.
