As many as 60 sheep are missing from a farm on Kerry’s Mount Brandon, and Gardaí are treating the incident as a case of livestock theft.
A segment about the theft featured on RTÉ’s nine o’clock news on Sunday night, reporting that the livestock are worth thousands of euro to their owner, Mikey Joe O’Shea.
RTÉ report that allowing for deaths and strays, Mikey is convinced that at least 45 sheep have been stolen from his herd. Livestock theft is real problem for those whose livelihood comes in part from herding sheep, and Gardaí have warned of the trauma and stress that it inflicts on farm families.
Mikey tells his story in his own words, through one of the thickest West Kerry accents we’ve ever heard.
