Stabbing Dublin

Very sad news.

A nine-year-old girl has died and her 11-year-old brother was hospitalised following a road traffic collision in Galway on Sunday.

The children, named locally as Bridget and Patrick Ward, were cycling their bicycles near the family home near Ballinasloe, Galway, when they were struck by a car.

Both children were taken to Portiuncula Hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead.

It’s understood that Patrick remains in a serious condition but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Writing online, Roscommon-Galway TD and former Minister for Communications Denis Naughten said: “What a terrible tragedy on Easter Sunday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved and their families at this time.”

Gardaí said at the time that the road was closed for a forensic examination and they are appealing for anyone with information to contact Ballinasloe station on 0909 631890.
