If you’re looking for a way to celebrate the famous Mexican Day of the Dead, we’ve got the lowdown of events courtesy of Don Julio Tequila.

Día de Los Muertos is an important Mexican holiday where life is celebrated while those who have passed away are commemorated. Celebrated on 1 and 2 November, Día de Los Muertos is a vibrant occasion that is typically marked with elaborate Mexican dress, home-cooked festive food, lively parades and decorative tributes, including marigold-adorned altars and sugar skulls.

These days Día de Los Muertos is celebrated the world over, and if you were hoping to mark the occasion right here in Ireland, then you’re in luck as Don Julio Tequila will be honouring the tradition with a series of events. The tequila brand has its roots in Mexico, so it’s only fitting that Don Julio is pulling out all the stops for Día de Los Muertos. The brand was founded by Julio González. Born in 1942 and Julio made tequila according to his own mantra: “This is not just work, but a way of life.”

In that spirit, venues across Ireland will be serving the Paloma, a classic and refreshing Mexican cocktail made with Don Julio Tequila and grapefruit soda. We’ve included a list of bars taking part this year at the bottom of this article, but if you want to dive into the festivities, make sure you check out Don Julio Tequila’s Día de Los Muertos celebrations at 777.

This beloved Mexican restaurant, located on South Great George’s Street will be going all out on Wednesday 30 October. Attendees can expect to be swept away by an authentic Mariachi band as they provide a fitting soundtrack on the evening. Guests will also receive a bespoke screen print designed by Steve Simpson, an acclaimed painter, printmaker and graphic artist. To round off the celebrations, a Don Julio ambassador will talk through the tequila’s exceptional flavour profile and the maturation process.

If you can’t make it down to 777 over the weekend, fear not as you can still get in on the celebrations with the following bars serving up signature Don Julio Tequila Palomas:
