Older people in Limerick and the surrounding areas have been targeted.
Gardaí have warned the public to be aware of a roofing/guttering scam primarily intended to target the frail and the elderly in Limerick and the surrounding areas.
According to a post on the Facebook page for An Garda Síochána in the southern region, culprits have been calling to the homes of victims identified in advance on the pretext of being professional trades people and convincing the ‘victims’ of the scam that repairs need to be carried out on their homes.
An Garda Síochána issued a number of tips to people on how to deal with people they suspect of being involved in this type of scam, including to request an itemised quotation for services, to never engage with people who insist on cash payments and to never leave strangers unsupervised in their home.

Gardaí are urging members of the public with elderly neighbours and friends to advise them of scams and, if they suspect that bogus callers and trades people are operating in their area, to contact the Gardaí without hesitation.
