Irish bookmakers had to pay out millions when Trump won the election

Rory Cashin

In a recent trading statement, Irish bookmakers Paddy Power announced that they had to take some major hits when the dust had settled around the US election.

Not only did they have to pay out €880,000 to people who had bet on Hillary losing the election, but they also paid out a massive €4.1 million to those who had successfully bet on Trump winning.

In light of this, they have created a new position that will last for three months, in which the successful candidate will focus solely on the potential bets around President Trump.

Talking to Newstalk, the company said “In the first 24 hours of the job ad being live, we received hundreds of applications, from across the world – including Pennsylvania, Washington DC, New York, Australia, South Africa and France. We hope to find the right candidate and employ them as soon as possible.”

If you are interested in the position, you can find the posting on LinkedIn right here.

There are said to be over 100 special bets to be set up from the new position, including whether or not the Mexican border wall will begin construction before 2017 is over, and bets on if the FBI can confirm there was collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

And, in case you were wondering, there is currently a 20/1 bet that Trump will announce the existence of aliens.
