New figures by Live Register Ireland show the signing-on total fell by 1,000 last month.
As new CSO figures show, the seasonally adjusted Live Register fell by 1,000 people in September, as RTÉ reported.

Men made up 56% of those signing on, with the total reaching 172,200, while the 25-34 age group was the largest cohort, accounting for 24.4% of the total.
The picture looks different compared with 2025, as the unadjusted total rose by 1,950 people, or 1.2%, to reach 167,193.
That increase follows a poll on young adults leaving Ireland for a better quality of life.
In addition, it comes amid TDs weighing Budget 2027's fuel excise and income tax plans.
The largest percentage increase over the year was in Dublin, up 5.4%, with Longford next at 3.5%.
In comparison, Monaghan moved in the opposite direction, falling 10.9%, while Kerry dropped 7.2%.
This week, budget negotiations around the €100 culture voucher announced in Budget 2027 have put household spending power under similar scrutiny.
"The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment as it includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance," the CSO noted.
The unemployment rate, as per separate CSO data released earlier in the week, remained unchanged at 5% for September, matching August.
As a sign that the labour market has cooled modestly over twelve months, that figure sat slightly above the 4.9% recorded in 2025.
The Live Register counts everyone receiving Jobseeker's Benefit or Allowance, including part-time, seasonal and casual workers.
Therefore, it is not a direct measure of unemployment, which stood separately at 5% in September.
