On stronger demand for fresh and packaged food, Tesco Ireland sales climbed in the first half 2026.
As like-for-like sales were up 4.1 per cent on volume growth alone, the retailer now claims a 24.1 per cent slice of the Irish grocery market.
For the Irish arm of the UK-based group, this marks a solid first half of the year, as total sales, which also include the contribution from new store space, were up 6.7 per cent over the same period.
Food sales were up 4.4 per cent year-on-year, matching the pace set in the same stretch of 2025.
And rising almost 13 per cent over the same window, Tesco's premium "Finest" line grew faster still.
The standout area was online shopping, growing by close to 12 per cent.
This followed the wider rollout of Tesco's "Whoosh" same-day delivery service.
Meanwhile, on a like-for-like basis, non-food sales rose a more modest 1.5 per cent.
As per the Irish Times, this growth came amid lifting by the Tesco group of the lower end of its full-year profit guidance.
While the hot summer temperatures weighed on sales volumes across the industry, profit rose 6.5 per cent in the first half.
According to Tesco, the retailer holds 24.1 per cent of the Irish grocery market.
Meanwhile, the group raised its profit forecast as the wider group lifted the bottom end of its full-year guidance.

That concern runs through a recent poll on quality of life in Ireland.
In the meantime, it sits alongside measures such as the fuel excise cut confirmed in Budget 2027.

Over the 26-week period, group-wide adjusted operating profit came to £1.783 billion, while once VAT and fuel are excluded, sales rose 2.0 per cent to £33.8 billion.
For the year, to the end of February of next year, Tesco now expects adjusted operating profit of between £3.15 billion and £3.3 billion.
As that is up from previous guidance of £3.0 billion to £3.3 billion, so far this year, its shares have risen 8 per cent.
