There’s one major reason the vast majority of shoppers prefer buying in person to getting stuff online

Niamh Maher

The Capital B is taking a look at our spending habits in a brand new episode focused on the Irish retail sector.

Hang on a sec… doesn’t everyone buy online these days?

Not really… On The Capital B with Nick Webb this week, we heard from Mark Cummins of Pointy who explained how it’s not just retailers who prefer to sell in store, consumers are all about the now.

They want to run down to the local shop, pick up exactly what they need and if they find out where it is online first… so be it. He went on to explain that massive 93% of us still prefer to shop in real live stores than online.

Dave O’Donoghue of Freshii agreed;

“I think online has a role, but I don’t think we’re going to closet ourselves at home for the rest of our lives and order everything in. We’ve all got to get out and about and socialise, it doesn’t have to be a date in a traditional bar, but retailers have to remain relative…

“A lot of retailers have websites but aren’t utilising them, that’s lazy… the ones who are going to survive are going to have to go beyond… adapt or die.”
